Our News Tis the Season of Giving' Christmas for Maluti Child Care Project In 2006, Nouwens Carpets and local businesses in the Harrismith and Qwa Qwa surrounds recognised the needs of the orphaned and vulnerable children in the area. And so the Maluti Child Care Project was established, with the sole objective of providing at least one hearty meal a day to these school-going children, as well as giving them a safe environment in which to play. With more some 3500 children to feed, seven kitchens were set up and manned by volunteers, known as the "Mamas". A meal and a playground might not seem like much, but it makes an enormous difference. This year, local sponsors have each “adopted” a kitchen and will all help to roll out the Christmas Bag initiative. Gift bags are sold to volunteers at R50 each – and they fill in a message on a gift tag. These bags are then filled with toiletries, stationery, toys and goodies by volunteers in Harrismith. The response has been amazing and on 11 December these will be handed out at the various kitchens along with a juice and a special treat for lunch With making a difference in mind, the Nouwens staff embarked on a journey of giving and receiving. Giving gifts to the children cared for by the MCCP; receiving the satisfaction and reward of knowing that an act of kindness, no matter how small, can go a long way. It has been great to have more parties involved and, as one of the sponsors said, "This entire experience has been humbling and heart-warming at the same time. It is unbelievable how willing everyone was to support our idea! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" The Following Organisations and Individuals have contributed Cash AJ Smit Magda Noack |
